Cultivation

A semi-erect spineless blackberry adapted to southern Sweden. Origin: at Swedish Univ. of Agricultural Sciences, Balsgard (Balsg. is name derived from Balsgard), Sweden by B. Sjostedt. Complex parentage involving several Rubus species; tested as BRu 82/1607-2; introd in 1994. Tree: relatively high yield; semi­erect, easily managed, spineless canes; more winter hardy than Black Satin. Fruit: medium to large; black; nearly spherical; sour flavor; ripens through September; produced in tight cluster that facilitates harvest.
