Cultivation

A high-yielding, genetically spineless blackberry with greater cold hardiness than Black Satin. Origin: in Brzezna, Poland, by J. Danek, Polish Research Institute of Pomology and Floriculture. Black Satin × No. 79411 (Ark. 1084 OP); cross made in 1983. Tree: spineless; similar to Black Satin but with shorter and more erect canes; fruiting laterals are medium length and strong. Fruit: larger than Black Satin (5.5 g); long; black; bright; firm; good skin strength; acid flavor; ripens ahead of Black Satin; fruit more susceptible to Botrytis cinerea than Black Satin under wet conditions.
