US 1482 (Merton Thornless × US 1411) open-pollinated; seed collected in 1955; selected in 1958. Tree: canes thornless; semi-upright; 8-10 ft long, up to 1 1/4 inches diam. at base; fruiting laterals bearing 35-40 fruit; nonsuckering; winter hardy at Beltsville and southward; propagation by tip rooting or cuttings; productive. For local market and home garden. Fruit: large; blunt conic; skin jet black; firm; good flavor; matures about 1 Aug. or 1 month later than Eldorado.
