Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Streblochaete

Characteristics

Loosely tufted perennial, 300-900 mm high. Leaf blade up to 250 x 3-11 mm, narrowed towards base; sheath tubular; ligule an unfringed membrane. Inflorescence an open panicle, ± secund; branches filiform, drooping, mostly solitary or paired, rather far apart on central axis. Spikelets 15-20 mm long, not noticeably compressed, awns from all florets intertwined so that spikelet falls as an unit; glumes unequal, shorter than spikelet. Florets 2-6, loosely arranged; lemma rounded on back, distinctly 7-nerved, shortly 2-lobed, awn up to 40 mm long, fine, twisted, geniculate; callus 2-3 mm long, sharp, with dense, short, white hairs; anther 1.4-2.0 mm long. Flowering time Apr., May.

Leaf-blades narrowly lanceolate-linear, up to 25 cm. long and 5–12 mm. wide, dark green, pubescent above or glabrous, finely acute; ligule up to 12 mm. long; sheaths retrorsely scabrid or smooth, auricled at the mouth.. Panicles 10–25 cm. long, moderately loose, sparingly branched, ± one-sided, nodding.. Spikelets linear-lanceolate to narrowly oblong, 16–30 mm. long; glumes linear, the lower 6–10 mm. long, the upper 10–13 mm. long; lemmas narrow and acute in side view, 10–17 mm. long; awns up to 4 cm. long.. Fig. 25.
Loosely tufted perennial, 300-900 mm high. Leaf blade to 250 x 3-11 mm, flat, narrowed towards base; sheath tubular. Spikelet 16-28 mm long (excluding awns); lemma nerves prominent, awn up to 40 mm long, fine, twisted; callus 2-3 mm long, sharp, hairs dense, short, white; anther 1.4-2.0 mm long.
Panicle 10-17(20) cm. long, rather lax, contracted; rhachis slender, smooth or scaberulous towards the apex; branches up to 10 cm. long becoming gradually shorter towards the apex, filiform, solitary or (the lower) 2-3-nate, the lower ones usually divided the upper simple.
Leaf-laminae 7-27 x 0.3-1.1 cm., narrowly linear from an attenuate base, long-tapering to an acute point, flaccid, usually drooping, usually expanded, vivid-green, scaberulous, usually glabrous, rarely pubescent on the upper surface.
Leaf-sheaths shorter than the internodes, striate, somewhat loose, keeled in the upper half, scabrous along the nerves or smooth, glabrous or rarely shortly pilose, with the mouth auricled (the auricles erect, adnate to the ligule).
Lemmas 13-16 mm. long, becoming gradually shorter towards the apex, glabrous, with the apical lobes 1-2 mm. long, acute; awn 20-43 mm. long.
Culms up to 90 cm. tall, 3-8-noded, simple or more rarely branched, terete, rather slender, geniculately ascending, glabrous, smooth.
Spikelets 15-27 mm. long, pale green to silvery-green; rhachilla internodes 2-3-mm. long, slender, glabrous; callus 2-3 mm. long.
Inferior glume 6-10 mm. long, linear-lanceolate; the superior 10-14 mm. long, oblong-lanceolate.
The awns become entangled so that the florets are detached from the inflorescence in bunches
Paleas up to 10 mm. long, the keels usually scaberulous towards the apex.
A loosely caespitose straggling perennial.
A loosely tufted perennial up to 1 m. high
Ligule 6-12 mm. long, often lacerate.
