Characteristics

Trees. Leaves alternate, par-(rarely impari-) pinnate; leaflets 2-6 pairs, op-posite, inequilateral, entire. Inflorescences axillary, paniculate. Flowers whitish, (4-) 5-merous; calyx lobed, imbricate; corolla imbricate; staminal tube urceolate, 10-dentate, the anthers 10, included; disk cupulate, the margin crenulate; ovary sessile in disk, glabrous; stigma discoid; ovules numerous in each cell, pendulous. Fruit large, capsular, septicidally dehiscent from the base, the valves separating into 2 layers, adnate to the central column at the apex; seeds numerous in each locule, the seed-coat developed into a large wing between the placenta and the seed; endosperm thin, carnose; embryo transverse, the cotyledons large, the radicle short.
