Characteristics

Erect, caespitose. Culms 20–55 cm high. Leaves with auricles c. 0.5 mm long; ligule 0.1–0.2 mm long, obtuse, hyaline; blade 3–12 cm long, 2.5 mm wide, flat or convolute, acuminate, adaxially pilose, abaxially pilose on nerves. Inflorescence (3–) 7–12 cm long, with 35–45 strongly spreading spikelets; peduncle glabrous. Spikelets 13–14 mm long; rachilla straight, elongated between all florets. Glumes equal, 22 mm long, carnose to cartilaginous. Bisexual floret: lemma narrowly ovate to narrowly elliptic, 11–13 mm long, long-acuminate, less firm than glumes, scabrous; lemma awn much longer than lemma body, (50–) 62–100 mm long; palea 2-keeled, 2-nerved, with nerves scabrous.
