Characteristics

Habit and culm dimensions not recorded. Leaves: sheath scaberulous or partly smooth, ciliate on upper margins; orifice with hairs to 5.5 mm long, extending onto blade; blade straight, folded or flat, 9–15 cm long, c. 2 mm wide, not pseudopetiolate, closely nerved on lower surface. Inflorescence a panicle, dense, contracted, 14–19 cm long, 1–1.5 (–2.5) cm wide; branches few, less than 2 cm long. Spikelets lanceolate, 17–25 mm long, 3.5–5 mm wide, closely 11–18-flowered, acuminate; pedicel 2–12 mm long; rachilla internodes c. 0.5 mm long, thick. Glumes ±equal, lanceolate, 7–8 mm long, long-acuminate, cartilaginous, 5–7-nerved, glabrous. Callus minute, blunt, bearded. Basal lemma lanceolate, 7–8 mm long, abruptly widened in lower part by thin broad margins, cartilaginous to indurated, 9-nerved (in 3 groups of 3), shiny; apex with mucro 1 mm long, with or without 2 minute lateral lobes; midnerve hirsute near base. Palea lanceolate-elliptic, 1/2–2/3 length of lemma, membranous, hairy near base; lobes 2, acuminate, ciliolate; keels broadly winged; flaps broad, glabrous or pubescent. Anthers c. 3 mm long.
