Characteristics

Plants forming rings or compact tussocks c. 0.3 m high. Flowering culms c. 1 m high. Leaves: sheath pubescent at orifice, otherwise glabrous; blade straight, 16–20 cm long, c. 0.8 mm wide, with flat pseudopetiole 4–5 mm long, closely nerved on abaxial surface. Panicles linear, 7.5–16 cm long, 0.5–1 cm wide, prominently exserted; axes and branches flat or triquetrous; branches few, to 2.2 cm long, loosely appressed to axis. Spikelets narrowly oblong, 6–10 mm long, 2–5 mm wide, 3–6-flowered; pedicel 1.5–7 mm long; rachilla slender, with internodes c. 1 mm long. Glumes ±equal, lanceolate to oblong, 4–5 mm long, obtuse, scarious, 3-nerved, obtusely carinate, glabrous. Callus minute, obtuse, woolly. Basal lemma lanceolate, 5 mm long, with 2 minute lobes, 3-nerved, woolly-hairy except near tip; body chartaceous; margins hyaline. Palea nearly as long as lemma, scarious or with hyaline flaps and apex; body and flaps white-woolly. Anthers c. 3 mm long.
