Utricularia appendiculata E.A.Bruce

Species

Angiosperms > Lamiales > Lentibulariaceae > Utricularia

Characteristics

Terrestrial herb.. Rhizoids and stolons capillary, numerous from the base of the scape.. Leaves rosulate but usually decayed at anthesis, linear, thalloid, up to 3 cm. long, 1.5–3 mm. wide, 1-nerved.. Traps numerous, ovoid, 0.8– 1.0 mm. long, stalked; mouth lateral, oblique; upper lip with a single variable but usually 3-branched appendage ± recurved over the mouth.. Inflorescence filiform, twining, up to 60 cm. high, glabrous above, minutely papillose at the base; flowers 1–8, distant; scales numerous, similar to the bracts; bracts medifixed, ± 3 mm. long, narrowly lanceolate, acute at both extremities; bracteoles similar but somewhat smaller; pedicels erect, 2–3 mm. long.. Calyx-lobes very unequal; upper broadly rhomboid, ± 3 mm. long; lower ovate or ovate-oblong, much narrower than the upper, apex truncate.. Corolla white, cream or pale yellow, 5–9 mm. long; upper lip oblong, scarcely exceeding the upper calyx-lobe, apex truncate or emarginate; lower lip orbicular, apex entire or emarginate; palate raised, obscurely 2-gibbous; spur narrowly cylindrical, curved, ± as long as the lower lip.. Filaments filiform, twisted; anther-thecae subdistinct.. Ovary ovoid; style very short; stigma lower lip semi-orbicular, upper much smaller, deltoid or oblong.. Capsule globose, obliquely dorsiventrally compressed, dehiscing by a longitudinal abaxial slit.. Seeds very numerous, narrowly cylindrical; testa longitudinally striate and with numerous short rough conical papillae.
