Herb to 20(-25) cm high; the stem white or yellowish, erect, simple, slender, terete, glabrous. Scales membranous, the opposite cauline scales connate for ca. 1/5-1/3 their length or less at the base, the cauline scales few, distant, narrowly ovate, acute apically, 5-8 mm long, much shorter than the internodes, glabrous.
