Characteristics

Tree to 20 m high. Leaves: lamina elliptic to obovate, 8–21 cm long, obtuse to acuminate; foliar glands 2 (rarely 1), large, 1–3 mm diam., at extreme base of lamina or at petiole apex; petiole 7–12 mm long. Racemes 6–12 cm long; pedicels 10–25 mm long. Flowers slightly zygomorphic, very fragrant. Sepals ovate, 7–12 mm long. Petals narrowly spathulate, 45–65 mm long, white to yellow, inside suffused mauve. Stamens 40–55 mm long; anthers 2–3 mm long. Ovary ovate to obovate, c. 7 mm long, glabrous; gynophore c. 10 mm long; style 35–40 mm long; stigma capitate. Fruit ovate to ellipsoid, 50–90 mm long, glabrous, orange; fruiting pedicel 18–22 mm long.  Seeds 8 or more, ± globose, 12–16 mm diam.
