Spikelets narrowly lanceolate, 10–15(–19) mm. long, light brown, the lower glume densely villous with tubercle-based golden-brown hairs; lower glume 2/3 to about as long as the spikelet; upper glume as long as the spikelet; upper lemma 5–7 mm. long, villous all over or glabrous on the back with villous margins, the lateral lobes produced into bristles 1–3(–6) mm. long, very rarely muticous; central awn 9–18 mm. long; callus broader than long; palea-keels wingless.. Caryopsis hairy on top.
