Aristida stipitata Hack. ex Schinz

Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Aristida

Characteristics

This very polymorphic species is so extremely variable that it is rather difficult to distinguish well-marked subspecies. Although its extreme variants are so distinct that several have previously been described as species, yet in many cases they are connected by intergrading forms. When more of these forms can be examined cytogenetically, observed under uniform conditions of cultivation and used in hybridization experiments, a more satisfactory classification will be possible. For the present it is proposed to recognize groups as subspecies on the basis of a general tendency in each group to exhibit a certain combination of characters, accompanied by peculiarities in their distribution.
