Characteristics

Annual, glabrous herbs. Stem erect, often sparsely branched from base. Leaves sessile. Flowers 4-merous. Calyx tube campanulate, longer than lobes. Corolla urceolate-rotate, yellow; tube ±ovoid; lobes short, spreading, not plicate in sinuses. Stamens equal; filaments basally adnate to corolla tube; anthers basifixed, scarcely twisted after anthesis, dehiscence longitudinal. Nectaries absent. Ovary ovoid, 1-locular, with numerous ovules; style straight, filiform, caducous; stigma 1, appearing capitate, ±2-lobed, viscid, not papillose; gynophore absent. Capsule ovoid, included in persistent perianth, dehiscent at apex. Seeds numerous.
