Capsule 3–5-locular, loculicidally dehiscent, with several seeds in each loculus.
Seeds usually ellipsoid, almost glabrous to densely silky or woolly.
Calyx lobed; lobes with oil-glands in a double row along each nerve.
Epicalyx of 3–12 (or more?) linear or filiform bracts.
Small shrubs or perennial herbs with woody rootstock.
Style not branched, clavate.
