Characteristics

Lianas with curled tendrils and white latex in all parts. Leaves opposite, with some colleters in axils. Inflorescences terminal in forks or on the tendrils. Flowers sweet-scented. Corolla white or creamy with orange or yellow throat; tube inside with a pilose belt around the anther; lobes overlapping to the left. Stamens inserted below the middle of the tube; anthers glabrous, acute at the apex, cordate at the base. Ovary glabrous or with a setose belt just below the truncate apex; pistil head oblong or ellipsoid. Fruit a many-seeded berry with a glabrous, smooth or rough sclerified pericarp and edible pulp.
