Characteristics

Flowers pentamerous axillary or in terminal spikes or dense few-flowered cymes. Sepals acute or obtuse, subequal. Corolla small, funnel-shaped, lobes usually short. Ovary 2-locular, 4-ovuled, hairy above; style bifid, usually to the base; stigmas ± peltate, sometimes bilobed. Capsule 4-valved.
