Ovary 2-locular, 4-ovuled, hairy above; style bifid almost or quite to the base; stigmas more or less peltate and orbicular, sometimes bilobate.
Stamens inserted low down in the corolla tube; filaments filiform, dilated at the base and often appendaged; anthers oblong; pollen smooth.
Corolla small, funnel-shaped, the limb usually shallowly lobed; the midpetaline areas hairy at least at the tips.
Leaves variously shaped, entire, small, usually with medifixed hairs.
Sepals acute or obtuse, subequal or the outer ones slightly larger.
Seeds dark brown or black, glabrous.
Bracteoles usually small.
Disk absent or small.
Capsule 4-valved.
