Characteristics

Perennial or annual herbs, erect or scrambling. Leaves alternate, entire to pinnatifid. Capitula solitary or in corymbs, few to many, radiate or discoid, many-flowered. Involucre cylindrical, calyculate; phyllaries narrow; receptacle epaleate. Corolla tube narrow, tapering towards the apex, 5-lobed. Anther collars narrow and elongated, anthers obtuse or slightly sagittate at base. Style arms with short to long appendages of fused papillae. Achenes cylindrical or oblong, with short undulate or papillose strongly striate epidermal cells and strongly spirally thickened duplex hairs; pappus uniform, of many fine hairs.
